Cape Cod is mostly missing out on the snowfall other areas of New England are getting from Tuesday’s storm. But the coastal region is getting the brunt of the storm’s wind.

The National Weather Service forecasted 20- to 35-mph winds in the area, with gusts of 45 to 65 mph. But according to the service, one gust in Wellfleet reached hurricane force Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, winds of at least 74 mph register as “hurricane force.” Winds of such force have the potential to topple shallowly rooted trees and cause extensive damage to power lines.
