An estimated 45,680 acres were scorched in Nowata, Washington and eastern Osage counties, according to a Thursday afternoon update from the Forestry Services...Kary Cox, Washington County emergency manager, said the “perfect storm” of high winds and low humidity, along with thick, dead grass upward of 3 feet tall combined to create a fast-moving fire...“I’ve been doing this for almost 30 years, and this was definitely one of the worst I’ve seen,” Cox said.
