Pineapple Express' Floods Northern California With More Rain
United States
The National Weather Service issued flood watches and warned of potential mudslides on Thursday in Northern California foothills already ravaged by wildfires and drought, saying an "atmospheric river" could bring up to 10 inches (25 cm) of rain to some areas. The storm is the result of a ribbon of moist air from the tropics, sometimes known as a "Pineapple Express" that has churned across the Pacific Ocean to take aim at the West Coast, National Weather Service meteorologist Brooke Bingaman said.
