Flooding takes a stinging toll
United States
The flooding has been more than enough. The soggy carpets, washed-out roads and ruined crops. And as reported on Tuesday’s front page, with more than 1½ months left in 2015, Charleston is within two inches of its rainiest year on record. Now parts of South Carolina are being inundated by mosquitoes — hordes of them that have been breeding in stagnant water. Enough that the normal “landing rate” of four or five per minute is more than 60 in Richland County. They’re also reported to be larger than normal
