Two atmospheric river storms are set to hit the West Coast over the next week, promising heavy rains, wind, potential mudslides, flooding and other hazards. The first of the two storms, known as a Pineapple Express, began to hit California on Thursday; the second will make landfall on Sunday. “This really is a broad sweep of California that’s going to see threats over the coming week,” Brian Ferguson, the California Office of Emergency Services deputy director of crisis communications, told the AP. Climate change is amplifying the intensity of storms and the amount of precipitation, thanks to warmer air being able to carry more moisture.
