[E]xtreme storm totals in the 20-40 inch range with locally higher amounts are possible in parts of northern Luzon...Even in the typhoon-prone Philippines, rainfall amounts exceeding 40 inches (1,000 mm) from a single typhoon are relatively rare, and always extremely dangerous. Far lower rainfall amounts from past typhoons have proven deadly time and again.
