Table: Houghton, Michigan Precipitation Frequency Estimates

by National Weather Service

In mid-June 2018, Houghton, Michigan, received 4 to 7 inches of rain in seven hours.[1] Based on past observational data, you would only expect rainfall rates this high once every 200 to 1,000 years. However, as the climate warms, a warmer atmosphere can hold more moisture, which increases the risk of extreme precipitation.
