Interactive Graphic: Unnatural coastal floods

by Climate Central

Humans are causing climate change, and climate change is causing global sea level to rise.

Pop-ups for each city show (1) how many coastal floods would not have taken place if this rise were subtracted (orange bars), and (2) how many would have taken place anyway (blue bars).

Floods are defined as exceeding the local “nuisance” flood threshold set by the National Weather Service based on observed impacts.
