Portland heat wave: 97-degree scorcher shatters temperature record

Portland's unseasonal heat wave has already eclipsed a 13-year-old record, with hours of midday sun left to go before the evening brings cooler air.
The temperature at the Portland International Airport registered 97 degrees as of 4:30 p.m. That's six degrees warmer than the previous June 4 heat record, set in 2003, and 15 degrees warmer than the seasonal average for early June.
Longer-range forecasts call for above-average temperatures through the summer. But that doesn't mean Portland is in for another sweltering summer such as 2015, which was the hottest on record
